About Our Program

Center Point Substance Abuse Prevention educates students and parents about the dangers of alcohol and other drugs and aims at equipping them with the knowledge necessary to make healthy lifestyle decisions. This is accomplished through a state-wide underage drinking prevention project focusing on youth prevention teams (SWAT), media literacy, community partnerships, and parent involvement efforts.

Programming for Youth

Youth are at the center of our mission. In an effort to effectively reach the youth in our community, Center Point provides various programs and tools focusing on leadership and good decision making.

Conversation Starters

Speaking to your son or daughter about alcohol and other drugs can be difficult.  Where does one start? With this in mind, we created “Conversation Starters.”

Resources

Locating good resources that discuss alcohol and other drugs from a researched-based perspective can be challenging. We’re here to help make things a little easier.

Alcohol

Although drinking by persons under the age of 21 is illegal, people aged 12 to 20 years drink 11% of all alcohol consumed in the United States. In fact, on average, underage drinkers consume more drinks per drinking occasion than adult drinkers.

Marijuana

The “high” experienced while using marijuana comes from a psychoactive component known as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Despite legalization efforts and support of marijuana use, evidence is mounting that THC is not risk-free.

Drugs & The Law

There are consequences to alcohol use/abuse. Center Point, along with the Drug Free Coalition of Hall County, have researched state and local laws pertaining to the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs and present them here.
